Ternär Music Technology has released Flechtwerk V2, a free macro synth plugin that builds on the acclaimed Plaits engine by Mutable Instruments. Available in VST3 and CLAP formats for 64-bit Mac, Windows, and Linux systems, Flechtwerk V2 offers a modern, performance-friendly interface powered by 24 distinct synthesis engines.
Inspired by Mutable Instruments’ Plaits and its latest 1.2 firmware, Flechtwerk combines advanced modular synthesis with ease of use. The plugin centers around three macro controls: Harmonics, Timbre, and Morph, making it quick to explore a wide range of tones and textures across genres.
New in Version 2
This second version introduces CLAP support and upsampling for more consistent performance at high sample rates. A new icon-based UI element also allows users to directly select from the eight new synth engines added in the latest Plaits firmware update.
Flechtwerk remains faithful to the Plaits architecture and continues to use open-source code by Émilie Gillet. The result is a compact but deep sound design tool that mirrors the modular world while remaining accessible to plugin users.
Fine-Tuned Dynamics and Modulation
Flechtwerk features a built-in low-pass gate (LPG) envelope with adjustable decay and color controls, ideal for producing natural-sounding transients or soft, filtered tails. The LPG can be bypassed for continuous, droning output.
Modulation is built in, with the envelope assignable to parameters such as frequency, timbre, and morph. A transpose control allows pitch shifts of ±1 octave. Two output modes (regular and aux) provide additional flexibility, including the option to blend for stereo effects.
