Song Athletics and BORO have introduced Gems, a collection of five free exploratory instruments designed for creative sound exploration. Available in Decent Sampler format, this collection offers a unique palette of textures and timbres for musicians and sound designers.
Unique Sound Design Tools
Gems is part of BORO’s ongoing research in digital lutherie, providing accessible and intuitive sound tools. These instruments were crafted using analog and digital processing techniques, delivering an eclectic blend of textures from warm electro-mechanical tones to ethereal vocal layers.
Included Instruments
- Lamplit – Soft guitar cloud creator, inspired by Skúli Sverrisson and Leo Abrahams, processed through modular effects.
- Hala – Tape-based pad from a Juno 106 recorded through a tube preamp onto cassette for a warm, wide sound.
- Ferro – Electro-mechanical piano blending Rhodes MK2 softness with upright piano resonance and mechanical hammer sounds.
- Vaila – Vocal textures from 王睿琪 Ruiqi Wang, recorded to cassette tape loops for layered, evolving sounds.
- Hecate – Bandoneon drones processed with polyphonic wavefolding, inspired by Pauline Oliveros.
